THANKFUL PT. DUEX

For all of you blog followers of the Rushes of OKC, normally you hear from Alicia, but today, it's Brian sharing a couple thoughts. Thankful seems like such an inadequate word for how I feel about my wife and family. Alicia is most incredible woman I know. The way she cares for our family is really quite amazing. I learn so much from her about patience, grace, tickle pillow fights, going above and beyond, giving of yourself, and the list goes on. She is Amazing and I am beyond thankful for her in my life. My life is different because of her. My life is better because of her. Alicia, I love you.

Secondly, I am thankful for my kids. Again, it is hard to put into words what it is to be a dad. New emotions. New struggles. New goals. New priorities. Isabelle and Ian truly astound me each day. Each day is filled with new discoveries and with each day I find that I love them even more than I thought was possible. My little chick-a-dee (Izze), I am so thankful for you. Bo (Ian), I am so thankful for you.

Thankful!!

Thinking about Thanksgiving tomorrow, I just wanted to say how THANKFUL I am for my family and friends. Without these people in my life, I think it would be a lonely one. They make me better than I am. I wouldn't want to be without any of you. So, thank you for being you in my life. To you, and yours, have a great Thanksgiving Day!

Home Vacation!

As I sit here pondering what to blog today, I have to say there is something to be said about vacation's at home. This last week, we spent our vacation at home, and we had such a good, relaxing time. Some pro's to the stay at home vacation..... you get to sleep in your own bed, so that means better sleep. The kids get to take their naps still, so they aren't cranky, plus getting to sleep in their own beds at night, so everyone is well rested. Getting back to the nap, I have to say, I took a nap almost everyday, I haven't done that since Ian was born. We got some work done around the house, which probably otherwise wouldn't have gotten done. I got drawers, cabinets, cleaned out that have been in need of organization for a long time now. That felt great. It's the little things, you know. We got our kitchen area painted. We didn't get to the whole house, but at least we got that done. We had some fun time too. Brian got to take the kids to their lapsit class at the Library, so he got to experience that time with them. We stuffed ourselves and played at Incredible Pizza. Izze got to ride the go carts with Brian this time. She was so cute sitting back in the seat, you could hardly see her. Ian was running from one thing to the next, that was his first experience there, except when he was first born. We jumped and slide at the bouncin craze place until mommy and daddy were worn out. Those things are a lot of work to get up and down, you know? We ate good food, so I got a break from the cooking, Hurray! Of course our vacation wouldn't be complete without the shopping part. We did our normal Mall, and headed down to Marshall's a day too. We had a date night where we just did Christmas shopping, so that was fun, and had dessert together at Barnes and Noble. I have to say we had great family time, it was fun! Today, Izze ask if daddy was going to be home all day today, and I told her no, but in a few days he would be home again all day. She said, "oh, that's not good". She is something. Couldn't have asked for a better vacation.

Have You Ever Heard Something So Sad...?

We have had a few days vacation this week, so today we headed to the mall. One of Izze's many favorites. Brian took the kids to play in the play area, while I did some shopping (looking really, I didn't find anything). When I meet up with them later, Brian told me that Izze went up to some girls and asked if they wanted to play with her, her words, "you guys want to play with me", and Brian said they were mean and said NO. He said she walked away and told Brian no one wanted to play with her, so they played some together, then about five minutes later she was ready to go. My heart broke. I know this will happen probably a lot of times as she grows and starts school, and we will have to deal with it, work it out, but I didn't expect it this soon. Ouch! I was so sad, she doesn't show any signs of it affecting her, but my heart sank a little, and sinks a little more thinking about all those things to come we will have to work through. Why can't life be simple, everyone likes everyone world?

Little "heart aches"

I just had to blog about this. Brian has been talking with Izze about using the potty in the night, so she doesn't leak, which she has been leaking some at nights. Her pull up just can't hold it all. Last night, I woke up to a sound like something dropped (which was the lid to her potty). I lay there with my eyes open, I see Izze's little frame gliding in the darkness going back to her room, so quiet, peaceful, not bothering to wake me and ask for help, but doing it all by herself. I thought at that moment how proud I was of her for being such a big girl, and at the same time, as I lay there my eyes begin to fill with tears. I, realizing that she was becoming a big girl with each new step and phase she passes through. She actually got up twice last night to potty by herself, never even waking me up, but going straight back to her room and going back to sleep. Wow! I was so emotional, I couldn't hardly go back to sleep. So proud of her, yet my heart ached a little. Have you ever had so much emotion/feeling that you can feel your heart actually ache?? Well......
Kiss, hug, kiss, hug to my little/ big girl.

Library Fun!

We got to have Library day again. The Library has been closed for at least two weeks and the kids have missed our lapsit class. Today, in the class they got to do the parachute. This is one of Izze's favorites. They only have it once a month or something. She gets to shake, go around, up and down, she loves it. Ian just watches and takes it all in. Ian really really enjoys the bubbles though. During the story time today, Izze got to wear a duck on her head, along with other kids having different hats on. Even Ian was wanting in on this fun. Afterwards, we checked out Christmas books, and some videos. WE are so glad the Library is open again, I love watching them do this.

Mom's group - Weekend Catch - up!

Today, we got together with our mom's group at the Mall. This is one of Izze's favorites. I could hardly get the stroller out of the truck and set up, because the wind was blowing so hard. Ian's little mouth was chattering and he was trying to get some breaths in between the wind gust. It was a little rainy too, but we finally made it into the mall. Kind of blew in, really. The kids got to play with their little friends while mommy tried to catch some conversation with her friends. Although, Ian wasn't much for playing today, and Izze was ready to go eat quicker than normal. After some popcorn chicken, and some conversation time, we headed to the cookie shop. Izze likes the sugar sparkle cookies. After hitting a few shops and the new toy shop, it was time to head home for nap time. The kids did a great job today, seemed to be patient and easy going. It was nice to see everyone since we missed last week, because of Izze not feeling well.

The weekend was busy in parts. Friday, the kids had some one on one daddy time, along with paw paw. They met paw paw at the doughnut shop. This is something they use to do often, but the doughnut thing was starting to catch up with us, I think. Izze would probably eat donuts all the time if we would let her. Izze really enjoys this time, and I know Ian does, and will more as he gets older. We had Dr. Appointments, then it was off to the park for some family photos. It was kind of last minute and the wind was blowing pretty good that day, but they really turned out great! Thank You, Thank You!!!! All in all a pretty good weekend. No painting yet, hopefully soon though. Stay warm today, burrr!

Today

Today is a perfect fall day! The kids and I had a special treat meeting daddy for lunch! City Bites has the best pumpkin spice cookies, with cream cheese frosting (yummy)!! Isabelle seems to be better today. Her color is back in her face, and her nose hasn't run as much this afternoon (this morning it was like a facet). Ian just seems to have the runny nose, but the same with him, not as much this afternoon. Maybe we are at the tail end of it. Tonight is a good tv night with Brian, and tomorrow looks to be a busy one, so enjoy the weekend to come.

I forgot to add something. Tonight is leftovers from the seven can soup last night, so that means I don't have to cook tonight!!!! Hurray!!! That makes the day even better. I can go out and play with the kids after their naps and not think about dinner tonight. Does it get better......

Sick Girl

An update with Izze. Those of you that don't know Isabelle has had the croup this week. I don't know how she got it, but none the less she did. We came home Sunday afternoon, and she took her nap, then after her nap she woke up crying and throwing up in her bed. (fun for mommy to clean up). Her temperature continued to rise to 102 and close to 103. The medicine for the fever helped a little, but it would just spike back up. She woke up horse that day and now was coughing and sounding like a "bark, seal" sound. It really is true when they say "The croup" sounds like that. Monday she seemed worse. She wouldn't talk, eat, or drink, and having a hard time sleeping and wheezing when she breathed. I decided to take her in to the Dr. Croup is a viral infection so it has to run it's course, but she did put her on chewable steroids for the next five days (only 2 to go now). This will help her bronchial tubes, because they are inflamed right now. So far Ian and the rest of us have not gotten it. Thank you Jesus! They both seem to have runny noses though. I hope this is no indication of how the winter months to come will be. I hate it when they are sick. She seems to get better as each day passes.

That all aside. I have been loving this weather. Although a little warm for fall, with the wind blowing the way it has and the trees now turning their brilliant shades, you can smell the fall weather to come in the air. Tonight is seven can soup, perfect for the cool front that is moving in, and great to share with friends tonight.

Halloween Festivites!

Well, here I am trying to catch up again. This past weekend we had a great time in Ponca. We headed there on Friday, and stayed for the church Halloween festival, which the kids had so much fun at. They got lots of candy, prizes and food. We got to visit family while there, so it was really great. After the festival, we headed to the last Ponca City Wildcats game of the season. We were meeting a friend there, actually he is like Brian's second brother, and the kids call him uncle Justin. The Wildcats were losing when we left after half time. There was some excitement on the field when a rumble begin, couldn't tell you what started it though. Izze was so cute, she would stand up and yell, go Wildcats and clap her hands. She enjoyed watching the cheerleaders, the marching band, and the high steepers, and I think they even had the flag people out there too. Anyways, it brought back some memories for both of us. We realized how much the town has changed since we have been gone. We even stopped in to Taco Stop, a home town favorite, for a Sancho. Brian likes the taco burgers. They have a one of a kind taste, and it is still the same as we remembered it. You sometimes see some people you went to school with there because everyone goes there. Which we did. It was fun taking the kids and having them experience their first football game, and Halloween festival too. The one thing I forgot though was my camera, so I had to use my aunt's, she will send me pictures when she gets the chance. Can you believe it the one thing I should have remembered, and I didn't. I'll just post another one from our mom's group Halloween party. We did have a good time!
